Information
We meet at the main gate of Camp Pendleton, Oceanside every Saturday from
10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Come for only 2 hours, 10am - noon; noon - 2:00pm. That
is all we ask. You will meet the best group of people in your life and we'll even
leave a car headlight on for ya. :)

A brief meeting is held at noon for about ten minutes. Everyone's opinion
COUNTS; however, stay focused about the Pendleton 8. We are a family-oriented
"PG" activity.

SEPTEMBER 2006
2006
June 10, 2006 - First
group hug.

The largest number of
people in attendance was
approximately 350 on June
24, 2006.

Soon thereafter, there has
been a significant
reduction in the ranks.
Less people in attendance.

On August 12, we had our
first meeting to get
organized. One of the
priorities discussed was
the need to recruit more
people.

On September 16th, a new
but short-lived Pendleton 8
Rally Brigade, of two,
generated huge waves of
enthusiasm at Huntington
Beach, California.

On September 16th, we
had our first ooORAH Devil
Dog March through the
City of Oceanside, an
incredible and very
positive experience.

On or about September
16th, it has been the same
group showing up at the
Rallies every Saturday.
We are so stubborn! We
refuse to surrender our
posts.

During the second week of
November, Old Glory was
placed throughout the
base celebrating the
Marine Corps Birthday
(Nov. 10th) and Veterans
Day (Nov. 11th).
Wonderful sight!

During Christmas of 2006,
several members of the
Pendleton 8 Rally Battalion
renewed their commitment
to support our Marines
being held in the brig.

We are lucky! Early spring
weather and we missed
the rainy season, so far.
On February 17, we had a
reunion, a party. Devil-Dog
hot dogs, soda pop and
buffalo chips to celebrate
how long we have stayed
together at our post every
Saturday since June of
2006.

On March 3, the Pendleton
8 Rally Battalion decided
to kick it up a notch and
have 'Character Assassin
Day' at the main gate.
Whoa! A stretch but we
had to prove a point that it
works both ways. See
pictures on home page.

It was a fabulous Memorial
Devil Dawg Weekend Rally
on May 26. Everyone
brought food for a BBQ
and we replenished the
regular group of 10 that
has held steadfast. Great
to see Doris! Great to see
everybody. Join us!

On July 21, 2007, Cpl.
Trent Thomas appeared to
rally with us! Just the
previous day, he was
residing in the brig and a
military jury took about an
hour to declare him a free
man. Incredible feeling,
extreme satisfaction that
the politicians could not
sway this outcome. His
baby daughter clutched
his hands and would not
leave his side.

We have had some media
coverage about the
Pendleton 8 but not
compared to the 24/7
media coverage given
when two or three freaks
screamed about the
horrendous conditions at
Gitmo. Such a
contradiction in faith. They
pray together and then
they plot their next attack
together.

Our Pendleton 8 were put
into shackles and placed
into solitary confinement!
The shackles eventually
came off, but Americans
need to know that they
have been receiving worse
treatment than the animals
at Gitmo!

Let's take our Country
back.

Pendleton 8 Rally Battalion - February 17, 2007
Special Forces Unit
February 24
According to recent remarks by Rep. John Murtha, he intends to cripple President Bush’s “surge” plan in Iraq by placing numerous
restrictions on how money can be spent, stating, “They won’t be able to do the deployment. They won’t have equipment, they don’t have the
training and they won’t be able to do the work. There’s no question in my mind. We have analyzed this and there’s no way this can be done.”

Perhaps the colonel –Murtha is a retired U.S. Marine Corps reservist – has forgotten the lessons we Vietnam veterans learned the hard
way.  You cannot prosecute a war effectively with interference from Washington.  What he proposes, labeled the “slow bleed” by Murtha’s
opponents, is exactly the type of interference and micromanagement we faced 40 years ago in Southeast Asia.

During that conflict, there were so many conditional rules of engagement and outright restrictions on the use of military power that our forces
were not only fighting the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces, but the bureaucracy inside the Beltway as well.  For example, for years we
were not permitted to bomb North Vietnamese targets north of 20 degrees north latitude – even when the North Vietnamese Air Force built
an airfield just north of the line.

When President Nixon finally unleashed American airpower in December 1972 (Operation Linebacker II), Air Force, Navy and Marine
aircrews brought North Vietnam to its knees in a matter of days, only to be called off before delivering the final blow.  Contrast that to the
Gulf War.  President Bush gave the Pentagon the mission – defend Saudi Arabia and liberate Kuwait – and let them execute it.

Mr. Murtha wants to restrict how specific monies can be spent, how troops are trained prior to deployment, how the services determine
rotation policies and manage their retention programs, etc.  He wants to require that the Defense Department allow combat veterans to have
at least one year stateside before returning to the combat zone.  An admirable goal, but these are decisions best left to those prosecuting
the war.  Marines normally deploy for seven months – are they expected to also wait one year before redeployment?  Where does this end?
Will the Pentagon have to clear each troop movement with Congress?

The congressman also wants to prevent the services, particularly the Army and Marine Corps, from using the Stop Loss program, a program
that allows the services to retain members on active duty to the full extent of their enlistment contract (the contact includes a reserve
portion).  In other words, he wants the military to stop using a legal, authorized force management tool.

In a surprising statement, Mr. Murtha called for the closure of the detention facility at Guantanamo (not sure what that has to do with Iraq)
and the bulldozing of the Iraqi prison at Abu Ghraib.  Can we assume he will allocate funds to build a new terrorist prison in his congressional
district?  As for Abu Ghraib, shouldn’t we allow the Iraqis to decide what to do with their facilities?

All of this boils down to congressional (political) micromanagement of the Defense Department’s conduct of a war – all the things he no
doubt complained about (or should have) when he was a Marine Corps officer.

Congratulations, Colonel – you propose to do to the troops in Iraq what the Johnson and Nixon administrations did to us in Vietnam.  I hope it
doesn’t turn out the same way.
REP. MURTHA, CAN YOU SPELL V-I-E-T-N-A-M?                                  Lt. Col. Rick Francona (Hardblogger)
